This paper proposes a high-performance indirect control scheme for torque rippleminimization in the switched reluctancemotor (SRM) drive system. Firstly, based on the nonlinear torque-angle characteristic of SRM, a novel torque sharing function is developed to obtain the optimal current profiles such that the torque ripple is minimized with reduced copper losses. Secondly, in order to track current accurately and indirectly achieve high-performance torque control, a robust current controller is derived through the Lyapunov stability theory. The proposed robust current controller not only considers the motor parameter modeling errors but also realizes the fixed frequency current control by introducing the pulse width modulation method. Further, a disturbance-observer-based speed controller is derived to regulate the motor speed accurately, and the load torque is considered an unknown disturbance................................
Frequent burning of three-phase induction motors windings has been reported. The initial symptoms observed before the burning of the windings were an increase in operating current and a temperature rise. The induction motor protection and control system was designed, developed, and constructed to reduce the problem of burnt winding by early detection and disconnection of supply if the problem persists. It was found to be efficient, reliable, durable, and rugged. The system is a boost to Nigerian industrialists as it will reduce cases of burning of induction motors and the consequent downtime and cost. The system is cheap and easy to repair and maintain because the parts and components used in the design are available locally....
For years, capacitive effects have been the subject of research [1] and [2]. The capacitive effects are discrete capacitors that appear between active conductors of power lines and between them with the ground plane, generating capacitive reactive power to the network [1] and [2]. Indeed, it must be noted that these effects affect the windings of the transformer when the coupling is in star or triangle. This study is conducted to show that capacitive effects affect transformer windings differently when coupling is in stars or triangles.........
The ampacity of high-voltage power cables depends, among others, on their core cross-sectional area as well as thermal resistivity of the thermal backfill surrounding the cables. The cross-sectional area of the power cables’ core is selected according to the expected power to be transferred via the cable system. Usually, the higher the power transfer required, the higher the cross-sectional area of the core. However, the cost of high-voltage power cables is relatively high and strictly depends on the dimensions of the core............
This paper aims to investigate the speed regulation problem for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) servo systems subject to unknown load torque disturbances. The proposed method utilizes sliding mode control (SMC), invariant manifold theory, and disturbance observation technique. In the PMSM servo systems, the unknown load torques will affect the control performance to a large extent, which is unmatched. In addition, compared with full-state measurement, the output-feedback framework is easy to implement and reduces the sensor costs. However, it is difficult to handle unmatched disturbance and unmeasured states simultaneously...........
